General Wingate Polytechnic College was founded as a secondary school in April 1946 under Haile Selassie I, named after British Field Commander Orde Wingate, and managed with British Council support. It transformed into a teacher training college in 1977 and later into the current Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution, providing technical and vocational education in science, technology, engineering, and other field
